In our mindful wellness group last week, we talked about the concept of mindfulness and how the reality of the concept and the title of the concept don’t always seem to gel. The conversation was a little tongue in cheek, but it struck a chord with me. Why is it that we call it mindfulness when it so often more about the heart?
Yes, mindful-practice is about learning to focus the mind, notice the thoughts that are generated by the mind and detach a little from those thoughts. It is about learning to pay attention to the life that is unfolding right here in this moment with dignity, courage and gratitude. Dignity, courage and gratitude are all heart emotions and mindfulness, for me is therefore, learning to engage the mind in certain way, so that we can bring our whole heart into each moment. So that we can live in loving awareness.
